Write Your Birth Story
The experience of childbirth in itself is a rite of passage. Being born is an initiation and giving birth is a transforming experience." -- Benig Mauger
The story of your child's birth is one that will be told time and again, and preserving it in written form is a beautiful gift, both to your child and to yourself. If you've intended to write your birth story but haven't yet put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), this workshop will provide a framework via questions, prompts, and the telling of our birth stories. The workshop will be spent in preparation and reflection, with some writing; the majority of the actual writing will be done at home. Limited to 6 participants; precrawling babies welcome.

Baby Sign Language Workshop
Learn the hows, whys, and whens -- and many, many benefits -- of using sign language as an early communication tool with your baby during this engaging workshop. Instructor Stephanie Hinkaty will introduce parents (and parents-to-be) to sign language, explain when babies are developmentally ready to understand and then express themselves through hand gestures, demonstrate simple ways to incorporate signs into everyday activities, and discuss research that has proven both the short- and long-term benefits of infant sign language on verbal expression, cognitive development, social interaction, and IQ. Babies welcome! Here's what one parent had to say about signing with her baby:
Signing enabled my daughter to communicate at a very early age, which eliminated a lot of tantrums and frustration for her... and therefore us! It's the key to why she's so verbal at two years old. Among other things, I credit it for her table manners, good eating habits, pleasant behavior and a smooth and easy potty training process. Needless to say, I highly recommend it! -- Kristin, mom to Chloe
